Adopting Golden Retriever Puppies – What a Great Idea

Hundreds of Golden Retriever puppies are available and waiting for a new family to become their hero! Golden Retrievers are great dogs and they will make a very loving part of your family. If you adopt a puppy for a shelter or from a Retriever rescue group you are giving a chance to a puppy that may have been abandoned or removed from a bad situation. When you bring the puppy to your home and integrate them into your family they will be so grateful to you for rescuing them that they will do all that they can to make you happy.

Owing a Golden Retriever puppy does come with certain challenges though. You will need to have some time to spend with them as you bring them home so you can teach them to be the dog that you have always wanted. One point of focus should be getting them potty trained. It is possible that the shelter or the rescue group has already begun training them but you will need to spend additional time for sure.

Puppies can only hold their bladder for one hour for every month they are alive. As an example, a four month old puppy can only hold their bladder for four hours at the longest. Be prepared as you will likely have to get up during the night to let them go outside or you may wake up to a mess. As the puppy grows older, the frequency of trips out during the night will slow down so do not get discouraged. The rewards will be well worth it in the end. golden retriever puppies colorado

Your new puppy will need some time to get acclimated with the members of your family and their new surroundings. If you have a fenced in yard and the weather is nice, let them out to enjoy the weather and to explore their new home. You can take some time and play in the yard with them to get them used to the interaction.

New puppies are chewers, no matter what breed they are. Golden Retriever puppies are no different. They will chew whatever they can find whether it be shoes, electrical cords, or furniture. You will need to keep a close eye on them for some time if you would like to protect your belongings from their razor sharp puppy teeth.

Puppies do not chew to be bad or in rebellion. They do this because they are cutting new teeth. You should give them chew toys that will allow them to cut their teeth on something that is not important to you and that is safe for them. Puppies can be seriously injured if they chew into an electrical wire or if they chew up a bottle of a chemical cleaner. You should keep your new puppy safe and watch them carefully.

Adopting a Golden Retriever puppy is a great idea. Many of the puppies that are in the shelter or that are being cared for a rescue group desperately need a new home and a family that loves them. You can save their little lives and bring happiness to your own when you adopt a puppy.
